I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Borne, like a vapor, on the summer air;
I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour.
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er:
Oh! I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.

I long for Jeanie with the daydawn smile,
Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile;
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by,
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die:—

Wailing for the lost one that comes not again:
Oh! I long for Jeanie, and my heart bows low,

I sigh for Jeanie, but her light form strayed
Far from the fond hearts round her native glade;

While her gentle fingers will cull them no more:

''Jeanie with the light brown hair'' est une Parlour Music (traduit par ''La musique de salon'' est un type de musique populaire qui est destiné aux chanteurs et aux pianistes amateurs dans les salons des classes moyennes). A popular song of the day composed by Stephen Foster in 1854. It is still seen in media even today. Popular movies and cartoon characters, such as Bugs Bunny have sung this song. this was one of the first songs written that was intended for amateurs and professionals for singing along with the sheet music. Foster allegedly wrote this song for his wife, Jennie, from whom he was separated in an attempt to woe her back.

Les japonais ont crée un anime inspiré de cette chanson et qu'ils ont appelé ''Girl in the wind : Jeanie with the light bright hair'' (1992). La série traduite en ''Le rêve de Jeannie'' est arrivée chez nous dans le Club Dorothée, fin 1996, mais malheureusement seuls 38 épisodes furent diffusés sur 52… Les épisodes 39 à 52 restent donc, à ce jour, inédits en France… Ils ont néanmoins été doublés.
